PADDY MCLAUGHLIN has will extend his exemplary York City career by a further two years after signing a new contract this evening.

Club stalwart McLaughlin becomes the second York player of the day to sign a two year contract extension with City, joining Rory Watson in agreeing new terms.

McLaughlin has penned a new two year deal until the Summer of 2026, entering his ninth season with the Minstermen.

The 33-year-old made 44 appearances across all competitions in the 2023/24 season, scoring a solitary goal in a 1-1 draw with FC Halifax Town in late October, in front of the TNT Sports cameras.

The midfielder will now have the chance to add to his 251 appearances for the club, having surpassed the 250 mark last campaign, playing a large part in City's push for safety in the Vanarama National League.

McLaughlin was part of the City side that defeated Newport County 2-0 in the 2012 Isuzu FA Trophy at Wembley Stadium, starting in the match, and then came on as an 86th minute substitute in the 2-1 victory over Luton Town in the National League play-off final just eight days later.

After a season in the EFL with the Minstermen, McLaughlin was released by City before going on to have spells with Grimsby Town, Harrogate Town, Gateshead and Hartlepool United, before securing a return to York in 2019.

McLaughlin and Watson were both part of the City retained list which had been offered new contracts, with no confirmation on Lenell John-Lewis' decision yet.
